Change Your Awareness, Change Your Life

· View Comments

Ever hear the saying, “Treat the cause, not the symptoms?”

Oftentimes, people are only aware of the symptoms in their lives. The symptoms are the most visible problems in one’s life or business. They are the easiest to see and easiest to work on curing/fixing. But curing the symptoms does not cure the cause, or the root problem.

To make deep and lasting change, in one’s life or business, one must work and search for the real underlying issue that drives the superficial wants/desires/problems.

This fundamental issue will then guide the change process and result in solutions, which will create substantially greater transformations in the individual or group.

Cultivating greater awareness in one’s life is not effortless. It requires a bit of work. But the plan of action becomes more apparent, the deeper one digs.

The solution of a problem often reveals itself once a greater understanding of the situation is achieved. Sometimes, just learning more about the problem will help come up with a plan of action. However, there are limits to acquiring information; not enough time to compile, can not gain further info, etc.

Other times, something different must be employed to help resolve a problem.

How does one achieve greater awareness?

1. Release all preconceptions and mental models. Observe the issue with a new perspective. See it with a new set of eyes. Einstein is loosely quoted as saying that you cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it.

2. Next, reflect on the situation from this new point of view and allow a new level of understanding to emerge. It could take moments or it may take days, depending on one’s proficiency and the complexity of the situation.

The trick is to continue to remain open to its arrival. No matter what it is. This revelation will often feel like the next logical step that needs to be taken. But, it could be something out of Left Field.

3. Finally, act from this new level of understanding and proceed naturally along the presented course of action. The more you utilize this process, the easier it becomes. Over time with practice, you will trust that it will be the exact thing that needs to be done.

So, allow your point of view to expand; realize what will really satisfy your needs; and begin to create the life your desire.

Practice Exercise:

  1. What are some symptoms that you have been addressing lately?
  2. What are their underlying cause?
  3. What new pieces of information can enter your awareness that will help you have a better understanding of the situation?
  4. How can you now best approach the situation now to make more meaningful changes?

Use this process and become AWARE of the improvements in your life.
